Gimbal Hinged Corrugated Compensator

Gimbal hinged corrugated compensator/hinged and gimbal expansion joints have a single membrane with the overall length restrained by a hinged hardware assembly designed to accommodate the full pressure thrust and any additional loadings from external sources.

A Gimbal hinged corrugated compensator/hinged and gimbal expansion joints allows angular movement in a single plane. A gimbal assembly, which is basically a hinge arrangement jointed together by a floating “gimbal” ring, allows for angular rotation in all planes.

A piping system consisting of two gimbals and a hinge can accommodate very large movements with very low reaction loads on the adjacent equipment. This is a very attractive application for large diameter hot systems even if the movements are not in a single plane.
